Visiting the Woldeits

Our friends the Woldeits moved from Australia to Colorado a few months ago and we finally paid them a visit.  They live in a big house in a huge lot outside of Denver.  Most of their neighbors have horses and some of them even have llamas!  Oli had a blast playing with Cordi and Evie and thoroughly enjoyed the Halloween festivities despite the skipped nap that day.

During the trip, Mami had to fly to and from Denver with Oli, which was mostly fine since we got a whole row of seats to ourselves on both flights.  The only bad part about the flights was that I opted not to take a stroller and Oli refused to walk and Denver is a huge airport, so lots of carrying Oli around.  The other bad part was the disrupted sleeping.  We think Oli woke up from his Papi's snoring the first night and he didn't like being in an unfamiliar location at night.  The first night, after waking up in the middle of the night and and during the ensuing battle to get him to go back to sleep, he cried, "Oli quiere ir a casa!"  ("Oli wants to go home!").  On a subsequent night, he cried, "Donde estan Oli y Mami?!" ("Where are Oli and Mami?!"), after waking up in the middle of the night again.  Luckily, he went back to sleeping through the night when we got back to California.

Yes, Oli, now 22 months old, constantly refers to himself and others in the third person (just like Elmo, his favorite Sesame Street character).  He does it so much, I talk to him that way too.  I have to make an effort to speak to him normally so he'll eventually learn.  It looks like he is starting to get it.  Today, he said, "Mami lee conmigo" ("Mami reads with me") for the first time, instead of his usual, "Mami lee con Oli" ("Mami reads with Oli").
