Oli and Toto evacuated!

At 1 AM last night, I woke up to the sounds of a helicopter and the police chasing and arresting a suspect in the apartment complex next door.  They yelled, "TURN AROUND NOW!" a few times...  The helicopter hovered for a while and the police searched inside and around the suspect's apartment.

After things quieted down about 45 minutes later, I finally drifted off to sleep, only to be woken up at 2:30 AM by a police officer knocking on the door so he could search our patio.  The suspect they chased had been wearing a jacket that he threw away before they caught him, so they were looking for it in case it had drugs or a weapon.  He looked in our patio and the neighbors' patios and didn't find anything.  Back to sleep.  Luckily, Oli slept through all the commotion.

At 6:30 AM, the police were back looking over our back wall into our patio and our neighbors' patios, still searching.  When Toto arrived, I let her know what had happened the night before in case the police came by to search the patio again.

Instead, after I left for work, the police pounded on all the doors in our complex and told all residents to evacuate because they found something that looked like a bomb.  Toto barely had time to gather a few things for Oli before they had to leave.  Luckily, MVP's dad was working from home and he came by to help Toto get Oli out.

Oli is now hanging out at Toto's house.  Toto was pretty understandably flustered and got worried on the drive to her house because she had forgotten to pack Coco, but then she noticed that Oli had managed to hang on to Coco during the evacuation, so all is well.

I called the police department a few minutes ago and their operation is still ongoing, so they can't go back yet.

Update:

The Pasadena Police Department have determined that "all the devices they found were safe" and are letting people back into our building.

Oli is napping at Toto's house, so they'll come back in the afternoon.
