Unwelcome excitement -- but things are OK

Oli was very fussy all afternoon yesterday, but just before midnight (these things always seem to happen in the middle of the night), he spit up a little bit of something that looked like bloody milk.  We freaked out and after talking to the pediatrician's triage nurse, we took him to the ER.  Oli's vital signs were fine, but he does not like to have his temperature taken.

When we finally saw a doctor a few hours later, she ordered some blood tests (Mami had to leave the room when they came to take his blood, but still heard him screaming and crying, which was harrowing).  The results were all normal except for his bilirubin level.  The doctor and nurse's conclusion was that the blood must have come from Mami's breast milk and not Oli.  They said that it was pretty common (though we have not read anything in any of our books about babies spitting up bloody milk).  Unfortunately, the bilirubin level was higher than the last time he was tested.  They didn't seem to be worried about it, though, because it wasn't too high.

We're all back at the ranch now, trying to catch up on sleep after our 5 hour hospital visit.

Thank God, everything turned out to be alright with Oliver; otherwise, I would be extremely worried leaving him today. All is well that ends well!

Oh boy. Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat.

Oh no! I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm sure it was very stressful and exhausting. Glad Oli's ok!

Glad everything is ok! For the bleeding, there are these silicone shield things they sell that Joyce used at some point.

Oh I am so sorry that happened to you. Poor little guy. Hearing them cry at the doctor is the worst!

Bilirubin is all about poop. the more they poop, the more they get it out. That was what our doctor told us.
